I meet Katherine several years back, way back when she was a freshman, when we did a family session and I couldn't believe when mom called and said she was graduating, it just blows my mind how fast the time flies.

Katherine was so much fun to work with and I am so glad mom called me to photograph her senior portraits, it always means the world to me when clients return year after year..I look forward to photographing her younger sister soon :)

I'm going to get a little personal in my blog, I think I'm going to be doing this a lot more in 2012, there are so many times I want to share an amazing story Ive heard about a senior I have photographed or just share something that has touched my heart..so here goes :)

My son Austin, he is 17 and is a Junior at Cy Fair high school, many of you know and have followed his journey on his page about his battle (it is a battle) with Epilepsy. This spring Austin went through 2 very painful and very dangerous operations to remove part of his brain in the hopes that it would cure his seizures. He started out 2011, on January 2nd in the hospital with phase 1 of 3 and finished out his hospital stay on March 15 with phase 3 and 2 brain surgeries under his belt. We left tired but very hopeful his seizures were cured and we could move through this life without the worry of anymore seizures....after recently celebrating his 9 month anniversary of being seizure free, we were slipping into a new normal, a life without seizures, while we were still on a buffet of seizures drugs and were dealing with the horrible side effect daily, it was becoming routine and bearable without having to worry about seizures anymore...until December 27th; Austin had 2 seizures, out of the blue, to say we were devastated is putting it mildly, we were shocked, stunned and broken hearted, Austin kept himself locked away until the next afternoon coming to terms with what had happened, we all were just a little in shock, well I think it was more anger than shock now looking back....

We contacted his doctor right away and ran a few tests and confirmed that his seizures have returned, so we are plotting a new coarse on our quest to cure his seizures, we still feel that he can be cured, whether it be by surgery, God or both...we are plotting.

After the first couple of days after the initial shock had worn off I think I went to that place called anger, aren't there like some stages or something your supposed to go through when something bad happens, I know this isn't the same as loosing someone etc but I think there might be some kind of steps your supposed to go through, maybe 7 or something silly like that....At first I was terrified, the seizure he had was bad and scary, he was chocking for a better part of the seizure and it scared me, more so than the others, then I went into acceptance ( I think I skipped like 5 steps there) then just a few days ago, I think I went back a few steps and went into anger, that's where I'm at now and I think its where I will plan to stay for a little bit, I may plan to stay at this step till we find a cure for stupid fepilepsy (a term a few of my epi moms and I use but insert a F word in there, trying to keep it PG here).

For awhile now, well since 2007, Ive been working with Memorial Hermann and recently an organization Talk about it.org, to help fund research and spread seizure awareness. We've had 3 toys drives and starting in November Ive been selling these little bracelets, that say Epilepsy Talk about it on them, they are cute, they are purple and there only $5 bucks. Ive given a few away and sold "some" Ive had some amazing friends and family who have sold a bunch but I want to sell them all..guess how many I have left, over 400 and I want them sold and I want people wearing them, wearing them to help spread the word, wearing them to let Austin know we are behind him and to let Epilepsy know to take a hike!! I had very high hopes when I bought all those bracelets, that I could sell them all...so I'm on a mission, to sell all these bracelets ALL of them and if I cant sell them all I'll give them away, I wanna see them on people and know we are working every day to spread the word about fepilepsy and how until we find a cure, 3 million children are suffering each and every day with seizures, many of which will die as a result of their seizures...

So I ask you this, do you have a bracelet, do you want one, do you want 20, do you want to help me find a cure for epilepsy and do you want to help Austin know he can do this, he can beat this and be seizure free? All the money raised will go to the Epilepsy Monitoring Unit at Memorial Hermann towards Epilepsy research.

I don't always get to photograph many guys so its always fun to photograph them cause guys sessions are completely different. Different pace, different kinds of outfits, the boys usually keep it to three TOPS and they are usually pretty quite...well Jeremy was not the typical guy senior session, he brought a bunch of different outfits and he wasn't quite and the session well it was different, different because there was this creepy guy walking around with a Machete, lol...you never know what your going to see in Texas...all was well with the creepy guy, he ended in fact to be doing his job, he was a lawn guy :)

As I was updating things today I ~~totally forgot~~ realized I have been neglecting my poor Blog...so look for a load of updates coming soon, I promise, cross my fingers, hope to die stick a needle in my eye ( seriously who makes up these things) that will keep me motivated, the whole needle, thing :)

I will also be doing a few new little things on the Blog called Fashion Spotlight, where I will spotlight; trends, fashion tips a all around how to coordinate your outfits, hair and makeup to have a FANtabulous session. I also have quite a few photographer that ~~stalk~~ follow my blog and I will be showing some photo tips and behind the scenes post from time to time...Ill reveal the rest later, cant wait to let you in on it, going to AWESOME!!

November is Epilepsy Awareness Month....Will you Talk about it?

As some of you may know my son Austin was diagnosed on March 4th, 2004 with Epilepsy after he was found in the shower suffering from Status Seizures, blue and barely breathing he was admitted to the ICU for 3 days, our families world was turned upside down. Austin then suffered with uncontrollable seizures, we tried countless medications and after 7 years of seizures and countless hospital stays, more MRI's and EEG's than I could count Austin decided in December of last year to have a radical and risky surgery to remove the part of his brain where his seizures were coming from, after a total of 3 months in the hospital this year and a long painful recovery, I am over joyed that we are coming up on his 8 month anniversary of being seizure free!

I am passionate about spreading the word about Epilepsy and informing other families that are suffering with the awful disease, that's why I'm doing all I can for Epilepsy Awareness month.

So with your help we can kick these seizure's butt!!

Did you know that:

*Epilepsy affects over 3 million Americans of all ages – more than multiple sclerosis, cerebral palsy, muscular dystrophy, and Parkinson’s disease combined. Almost 500 new cases of epilepsy are diagnosed every day in the United States. Epilepsy affects 50,000,000 people worldwide.

*It is estimated that up to 50,000 deaths occur annually in the U.S. from status epilepticus (prolonged seizures), Sudden Unexplained Death in Epilepsy (SUDEP), and other seizure-related causes such as drowning and other accidents.

*Historically, epilepsy research has been under-funded. Federal dollars spent on research pale in comparison to those spent on other diseases, many of which affect fewer people than epilepsy.

*For many soldiers suffering traumatic brain injury on the battlefield, epilepsy will be a long-term consequence

We are doing two things, first we are selling bracelets ( see below) to help spread the word and ask people to Talk about it all the money collected will be donated to Epilepsy research...with out education and awareness there can be no cure. Secondly we are collecting small new toys for the EMU~Epilepsy Monitoring Unit at Memorial Herman Hospital, while this hospital is the top in the nation the EMU has little funds, which is not unlike the funds for Epilepsy research. We will be collecting these toys to be donated on November 19th when I join another family at the EMU at Memorial Hermann to Talk about Epilepsy and to share our stories.

What toys we are collecting:
new hotwheel cars
new Barbies
new beanie babies or webkins/small stuffed animals
small infant toys

These toys are a tremendous help when children come into the EMU terrified and are asked to hold still while dozen of electrodes are being placed on their little heads this process can sometimes take over an hour and can be terrifying to a child and these items will help comfort them when they are frightened.

My awesome assistant Kayle is leaving me, well technically shes going to college, so really she's NOT LEAVING me but going off on to her own adventures..I'm so excited for her but I will miss having her at my sessions...she is the most awesome-est assistant EVA!!

So....that means I need a new awesome assistant....Here what you need to be... AWESOME!!

I'm looking for someone who is available evening to assist me during sessions.
Must be in Highschool/college and able to drive.
You would need to be able to lift heavy furniture, not be afraid of bugs and creepy tall grass.
Be able to work in Texas heat and Texas cold ( haha ).

I also need to you assist with reflectors, getting equipment, assisting with makeup, adjusting outfits, spotting stray hairs, killing bug, acting goofy on the spot....

If you are seriously interested please email me or text me...don't inquire if you think OMG this will be so much fun ( it is fun ) but its a TON of hard, hot, dirty looking out for bugs, cows, dogs and big creepy spiders.

The session almost didnt happen; the wind, the clouds, blekk...but I took a chance and pushed on and Im glad I did we were able to shoot for about an hour before the weather took over. I only photography pretty people....How the heck am I so lucky!! All I have to say is I am LUCKY the seniors I have had this year have been so wonderful, one they are so sweet and so fun and O M G are they amazingly gorgeous and I'm not even a little bit kidding all of them, every single one...gorgeous...oiy I love my job!

I cant believe the school year is almost over and all my Seniors will be leaving and headed to college, Ive had some amazing senior so far this year and had so much fun photographing all of them....

I have gotten several calls to ask my opinion on places to go shoot senior prom pics, now why I don't shoot proms picks I can recommend some fabulous places...

Some of these places are public parks and some are neighborhood parks so make sure your allowed to shoot there if you don't live in that particular subdivision.

Coles Crossing : Next to the pool area is beautiful and has great light in the evening and loads of pretty flowers.

Rock Creek Subdivision: Has a beautiful water fall and rock features, light can be a bit harsh before 5ish

FairField: The Gazebo on Mason and at the front next to the Lake

Town Lake on Barker Cypress: beautiful waterfalls and beautiful flowers

Bridgelands: ( only if you live there or your date) There is a fabulous bridge and some really pretty flowers by the info center.

Now for those of you who want to travel a ways about 20 minutes without traffic, there is Mercer Arboretum on 1960 and Aldine westfield far away but GORGEOUS!

One more, for a more urban cool setting there is Cypress Top Park there is a really cool vintage gas station and would be fun to shoot in front of for a more hip picture ( did I just say hip?)

also when looking for your locations keep this in mind:

Look for open shade, full sun pics just make everyone squint.

Think outside the box, pics in front of mom and dads house BORING...look for a different place maybe and open field or go for something silly in front of a crazy building, add some flare to your pics, Senior Prom only happens once. For those of your having your prom downtown think of shooting them down town on the street for a more edgy look, that would be super fab...

Yesterday was my model call shoot out....every once and awhile we put out a model call and go location scouting, this was one of those days...we met at 8am ( yeah am ) and got back around 7 pm....we were pooped but had such a good time....we found some amazing locations and nearly froze to death, it was in the 40's that early...but, again, it was awesome.....

I have sent out about 10 applications this week alone for 2010 Senior Reps...All the spots are almost full. All the spots for Cy-Woods and Cy-Springs and Cy-Fair are filled, Cy-Ridge has one spot left open and Lagham has one spot available. If you are interested in becoming a Senior Rep for 2010 give me a shout out quickly as the spots are filling up quickly.

I just finished the New Senior Announcements & 411 cards for 2009/2010 and will be debut them in the next day or two.

FYI: In order to receive your Grad announcements in time for Graduation, sessions must take place before the end of April.

I had a Senior session this evening with a very nice young man. When I met Mr. A for the first time we were rained out for our session so we had to reschedule for this evening. We had a good time, it was so nice outside, it was a pleasant evening, we went to a local park and then went to the Berry Center, I have to say I will be going there more, it was perfect...but...we both wished we could have gotten onto the field, this young man, all

Its that time of year.....Its SENIOR REP TIME...I am looking for Senior Rep's for '09. If you are interested in becoming a SR for me give me a call as quickly as possible. Last year I had to turn some kiddos away, its first come basis. I have a form for you to fill out if you are interested. This years Senior Rep package will be "Rockin", I have added 2 new features for '09'ers. SR's this year not only earn free prints, but all SR this year will received a Kickin slideshow for your I-Pods, I-phones, and your Myspace or Facebook pages. SR will also get a mini flash drive( its soo cute) with their Senior Rep pics so they can download and share their pics with friends! This new stuff is sooo cool. Senior Rep sessions are starting now, so give me a call..soon...dont wait..call now....lol just kidding, still kinda tired from all the workshops!

I attended a workshop the past 3 days, I am so tired but it was a blast. I have never photographed at night before and it was so cool. Here is a little bit of what Ive been up too. This is a bit edgy...and I love it.

I am looking for a group of soon to be Seniors to Model for me, this will not be Senior Rep stuff, but you can still do it if your a senior rep or just wanna go out and have some fun. We will be shooting all day, lunch and dinner will be on me and we will be going to multiple locations, one of them being downtown...If you are in interested give me a call, this will be a lot of work and will be a long day, but lots of fun. If you have modeled and are looking for portfolio work or just want to model give me a shout out.

Prom Night is fast approaching and what do you do after Prom is over.....

well, you trash the dress of coarse.

I will be offering a limited amount of TTD sessions this year.

TTD session are a mini session where we got out and have fun in your prom dress, this session can be by yourself or with a group of your friends.

We go to urban locations, train tracks, horse stables, old barns and anywhere where you cant typically go in a Prom Dress.
